The Crucial Role of Patch Tests for Sensitive Skin

Navigating the world of skincare can be a daunting task, especially for those with sensitive skin. However, even the most natural products can trigger adverse reactions, making patch tests an essential step in any skincare routine. Here’s why conducting patch tests is crucial, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Addressing Reports Over Zinc Oxide Toxicity in Sunscreen

There's a study from 2021 that appears to have caused quite a stir of late: 'Zinc oxide-induced changes to sunscreen ingredient efficacy and toxicity under UV irradiation'. It sounds alarming, so I have been meaning to address this paper with a blog post for a while.

Allergic to the sun?

According to the NHS, 10-15% of the UK's population suffers from a condition called Polymorphic Light Eruption, or PMLE. Also referred to as sun allergy, sun poisoning, prurigo aestivalis, summer eruption/prurigo, or eczema solare.  Customer Jo had a chat with us to tell us what life was like for her with a sun allergy - coupled with a sunscreen allergy.

The 3 variables of sun protection

When I look back at my journey with Shade™, one thing has become very clear to me: Shade™ is an effective sunscreen, organic and with no plastic waste, that has prompted many positive reviews. However, that does not detract from the sinking feeling I get when an occasional negative review appears.

Child safe, mineral sunscreen

We get a lot of people asking if it's OK to use Shade on babies and children, the quick answer is "Yes!". In fact, all the ingredients in our Shade All-Natural Sunscreen are edible, so if your baby accidentally ingests it, it's highly unlikely to cause any issues.

A word of warning about natural sunscreens

The headline for this blog post may surprise you coming from the manufacturer of Britain's most simple, natural sunscreen brand, but it's important information you need if you are going to undertake to switch from a chemical to a natural formula.

The Lobsters vs. the Warmongers

We seem to be a nation of extremes...either people are exposing themselves and turning into lobsters on the beach or coating themselves in SPF50 and declaring all-out war on daylight, donning ridiculous hats, long-sleeved tops and glaring at the sun as if it's the personification of cancer itself.

To Bee or Not to Bee? Wax is the Question

Our simple four-ingredient formula is entirely natural and contains only organic, unrefined shea butter and coconut oil, non-Nano zinc oxide and beeswax.

Over the last couple of years, due to demand from the growing vegan (now popularly termed, 'plant-based') consumer movement, we have been acknowledging the increasing demand for a beeswax-free formula.
